Many refugees make their way to Greece, where they find themselves in limbo—unable to integrate into society, unable to go home. OneLife assists an initiative that reaches out to refugees, meeting basic needs and giving them skills that will help them provide for their families.
Volunteers may work through the Oasis refugee ministry in Greece. The center ministers to more than 500 people each week. The center welcomes, loves and accepts refugees regardless of ethnicity or religion. You can demonstrate the Good News by meeting physical needs, providing hot meals, groceries, hygiene items, showers, haircuts, medicine and much more. Many refugees desire language training through Greek and English courses, as well as assistance with job searches and other means of providing income for their families. The typical refugee is starving for hope, love, friendship and acceptance. You can share the love of Christ with these refugees so that they can move forward with hope of a better future.
Volunteers assist staff at Oasis Refugee Center, teaching English to adults and children, serving and preparing meals, providing medical ministry, distributing clothing, teaching sewing classes for women. Refugees have an opportunity to experience full and meaningful lives, to raise their families in confidence, build their communities with dignity and share this life with others.
Athens is currently the largest European gateway city for immigrants from Central Asia, the Middle East and Northern Africa. 1 million (20 percent) of Athens’s 5 million residents are immigrants and refugees. The large scale entrance of refugees in Greece has escalated in the last couple of years to become a full-scale crisis within the country.
The city of Athens enjoys a mild climate but can get extremely hot in the summer. The region is mountainous and not far from the sea. Volunteers will be walking every day and will need to be able to navigate steps and rocky terrain.
Here are specific ways your donation will help.
- One hot meal to a refugee = $1
- 600 hot meals = $560
- One week's food for a family = $5
- One bag of groceries for 150 refugee families =$750
If total donations exceed the financial needs of this project the funds may be used for similar projects in other areas of the world.Give To This Project
